There are many hiking trails at Governor Dodge State Park. We started Sunday morning by heading down The Stephens’ Falls Trail. Then we hiked The Lost Canyon Trail.
The Stephens’ Falls Hike:
The Stephens’ Falls Trail is fantastic, it is only .5-mile, but there is so much to see. Most of the trail above the falls is paved, making it very accessible. There are a couple of sweet viewing spots above the falls, but the real beauty is down below.
The stone stairs have a sturdy railing leading down to the Stephens’ Falls.
I thought the view from above was beautiful, but once I descended the stairs, I was amazed by the majesty of this location.
There is a small cavern on the left side of the main falls and a massive flat wall of rock to the right. A very green moss is covering everything in this area.
Just a few feet away is much smaller falls; perhaps this shouldn’t be called a falls.
The water is flowing down the side of the hill. I am taking the liberty and calling this a falls. The colors of the fall foliage and the recent rains make this a picturesque scene.
The Stephens’ Falls Trail is very short. However, every step is rewarding. I highly recommend hiking to the end and not missing anything.
The Lost Canyon Hike – 3-mile loop:
When we got to the end of the Stephens’ Falls, we continued to the Lost Canyon Trail.
While following the trail we came across a small offshoot leading to the Wilson Spring House.
There is a wide variety of scenery along this trail, including some pretty bridges and sandstone bluffs. The path is not difficult; it is well worth a hike. Much of the Lost Canyon Trail is a forest with a couple of steeper climbs and descents.
I was amazed at how many different and exciting things there are to see on this hike.
I will be returning in the not so distant future to check out other hiking opportunities at Governor Dodge.
