Easter Day Hiking
Hiking Aztalan Wisconsin State Park has been on my bucket list of hiking in WI for a couple of months. So Sunday seems like the perfect day to pack up the family early in the morning and head out for some exploration.
I don’t know much about the hiking at Aztalan or really anything except I’ve never been there and it looks interesting. Hiking today is going to be a good day. My family is together, the sun is shining, and the temperature is a beautiful 72°.

After we have arrived, I notice right away a large log fence with stockades surrounding much of the park.
There are two large mounds and many signs along the trail explaining the significance of the area. If you would like to know about the history and importance of Aztalan WI, please see the Wikipedia page.
Some of this trail follows alongside the Crawfish River. Fishing is permitted in the river with the proper fishing license.
Hiking Aztalan Wisconsin State Park was fascinating, and I enjoyed myself and the time spent with my family. However, I was hoping for more hiking.
After hiking the loop around the Park, we sit down at one of the picnic tables to have a snack. The hiking was short, and I am feeling a little disappointed. But then I notice another Trail.
What else are we going to do but hike the Fawn Prairie Trail as well.
All in all, we had a great time visiting and hiking Aztlan Wisconsin.
I would recommend visiting if you are already in the area. I’m not sure I would drive too far out of the way for the hiking. But, Aztalan State Park is rich with history and a great place to learn about Wisconsin’s past.
