Hiking Roche-a-Cri State Park Wisconsin

Hiking at Roche-a-Cri Wisconsin State Park & Natural Area was a great way to spend a Labor Day morning.  This beautiful State Park is set back from the main road, providing a quiet and relaxing atmosphere inside the park.

First, we stopped to see the sandstone bluff that displays some petroglyphs.  The rock art is beautiful and such an awesome piece of history withstanding the test of time.

There is also a Travel Wisconsin station to set your phone or camera on and to take a picture.  Then you can share your pictures on Instagram @TravelWisconsin using #ScenicWisconsin.

Next, we head to the Roche-a-Cri mound for a hike up the 303 stairs to the top observation platform.  It is a lot of stairs to the top, however, there are several viewing platforms along the way with benches to stop at and rest at if needed.

After you make it up the considerable amount of the stairs you are rewarded with a platform walkway that will lead you out to the final observation deck.

The observation deck at the top of the mound has plenty of benches to sit down relax and take in the beauty around you, before heading back down the way you came.  You can see for miles from the platform and even on an overcast dreary day, it is still quite an amazing panoramic view of the area.

We wanted to hike on some of the trails available (Wisconsin DNR Roche-a-Cri map) however by the time we had reached the bottom of the mound, it had begun to sprinkle and thus ended our adventures for the day.  We still had a wonderful visit and are already making plans to get back and hike some trails.
