The Omaha bike trail is a wonderfully secluded trail ride (most days). The terrain is mostly paved and runs from Camp Douglas WI to Elroy WI totaling approximately 13 miles one way.
Even though the trail is well maintained, natures debris makes this a fun ride for mountain and cyclocross bikes, but a little trickier for road bikes.
The Omaha Bike Trail used to be a railroad bed that has now been converted for nature enthusiasts to enjoy for a small trail fee of $2/daily or $10/annual pass. Even on a hot summer day, a large portion of this trail is shaded and the sandstone bluffs help to keep your ride cool.
On the Camp Douglas side of the 875′ old railroad tunnel, you can stop to have lunch at one of the picnic tables or refill your water bottles from the hand pump well. There is even a restroom to use before getting back to your ride.
With all of the amenities provided approximately halfway through the ride, even the younger bikers can join in the fun.
I would like to make a public service announcement that when spending time outdoors always be respectful of nature, use common sense and please follow any rules posted.
Always give more than you take and leave no trace behind
I always try to have a grocery bag in my pack so I can pick up any garbage that may be found along the way.
Thank you for reading! Have a great day!!
